We are in the middle of Smart Girl Summer, and today, we are with one of my favorite smart women in the world, Beth McCord, better known as your Enneagram coach. Beth is giving us the behind-the-scenes experience from building her wildly successful business. I love doing these smart girl summer posts so much because I learn quite a bit, and I’m sure you will, too.
Beth McCord is an accomplished Enneagram speaker, author, coach, and teacher with over two decades of dedicated experience. Today, she simplifies Enneagram insights from a faith-based perspective, making it accessible to people from all walks of life.
In her new book, The Enneagram for Moms: See the True Colors of Yourself and Your Children as God Intends, Beth takes women on a transformative journey through motherhood, blending Enneagram wisdom with practical insights to foster authentic and healthy family dynamics.
Let’s dive in.
Beth McCord is a brilliant businesswoman and a brilliant Enneagram teacher, and she’s running a very successful business as an Enneagram coach. She knows all things Enneagram, so I asked her what she sees that is working in 2024.
Beth says that there are still a lot of question marks because things are changing so rapidly. The way society is unfolding and the economy, people are spending so much money on groceries, gas, and medicine that there isn’t extra to spend on fun stuff. So, right now, it’s just trying to keep our finger on the pulse of what people need. What are those pain points, and how can we address them?
Also, Beth says she’s noticed that people are kind of burnt out with online things, like Zoom, especially after the pandemic, but businesses are in the middle of online marketing. However, things are shifting to more in-person, so that has its own challenges. So, the question is, are we able and willing to pivot in that diffraction and maybe forego some of the other things we have been doing online? We are still figuring things out in 2024.
We know that social media is a big part of online marketing, but it’s so time-consuming, so if you’re spending all your time on social media, then you’re not actually getting work done. Beth shares a way she maximizes her time for creating content and engaging with her audience and that is by batch creating content.
She says that by batch recording and batch creating posts, she can stay on top of the game but not be on social media every day. However, there are those one-off situations, like when she took her audience behind the scenes of her recording her audiobook, which was really fun. But scheduling her content was a game-changer for her.
I followed up by asking what her content creation schedule looks like for her, and she said that she is most creative in the mornings. Beth tries to block off time for creation in the mornings, and although it doesn’t always work out, she can get at least three mornings during the week when she’s creating. Whether that is writing or content creation for social media. She says it’s best for everyone to figure out what time of the day they have the most energy and be most productive and work during that time if possible.
Beth’s latest project is her book Enneagram for Moms, and I asked her how she chose which project she will be working on next. Beth says that it’s a combination of what the pain points are out there and who needs what. And then she asks herself, is that me or is that not me because there are many pain points that she’s not the right person to address them.
So for this new book it was going to be Enneagram for parents, but then her and her husband realized that 85% of their audience are women, and Beth thought she wanted a book for moms when she was a young mom on the Enneagram, so it was an inspiration of herself and her own story.
Thank you, Beth, for all the tips on running a successful business, but now let’s get into coaching.
If you’ve ever found yourself feeling moderately unhappy most of the time but never quite unhappy enough to make a change, that’s what I call the mediocrity trap. It’s a sneaky situation where things are bad but not too bad, right? And what happens is it keeps you stuck in a loop because it’s never quite enough to inspire the frustration or the anger or say I’m done enough to break free. The mediocrity trap is one of the trickiest ruts to escape.
I want to dive into the mediocrity trap and explore some really practical ways that you can get out of it. The first step to getting unstuck is recognizing that you’re in the mediocrity trap. Here are some ways to recognize it.
Here are practical steps to escape the mediocrity trap.
“There is a lot of being curious, figuring things out, and being flexible. Being flexible is one of the biggest things.”

“What can we do with the time we have and maximize it? That is the key here.”
12:30
“God created her to be her personality for her kids and their personalities. He didn’t make a mistake, so how can we celebrate that, and how can we own our weaknesses but not in a shameful, guilty, judging way? How can we see those and grow from them?”
25:20
“With courses, how can you say the same content and message as quickly, efficiently, practical, and applicable as possible? I would aim for bite-sized lessons.”
