When it comes to skincare, a lot of us go straight for the latest creams and serums, hoping they’ll work miracles. But here’s a secret: glowing, youthful skin isn’t just about what you put on the outside; it’s also about what you do for your body on the inside. Let’s dive into three simple yet powerful ways to keep your skin looking its best.
I can’t say it enough: sleep is one of the best skincare tools you have. When you’re snoozing, your body isn’t just resting—it’s working hard to repair and rejuvenate. Deep sleep is when your body ramps up collagen production, that protein that keeps skin firm and smooth. Without enough sleep, collagen production drops, leading to more wrinkles and that dreaded dull complexion.
Sleeping also boosts cell turnover, which means your body is better at replacing old, damaged cells with fresh, healthy ones. Blood flow increases during sleep too, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your skin. This is also when stress hormones like cortisol drop, allowing your skin to heal and reducing inflammation. So, if you’re struggling with issues like acne or eczema, prioritizing 7-9 hours of sleep could be game-changing.
Commit to finding the right amount of sleep for your body and stick to it. Your skin (and energy levels!) will thank you.
Brace yourself—sugar does not love your skin. Sugar binds to collagen and elastin, the two proteins that keep your skin smooth and bouncy, through a process called glycation. This process creates molecules known as AGEs (advanced glycation end-products), which weaken the proteins in your skin, making it sag and wrinkle.
Not only that, but sugar increases inflammation, leaving your skin barrier vulnerable to environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution. Over time, this can lead to dryness, dullness, and deeper wrinkles. Try swapping out sugar with healthier alternatives like allulose or stevia. These options won’t spike your blood sugar or compromise your skin’s collagen.
Reducing sugar helps protect your collagen, giving you more radiant, resilient skin that holds onto its youthful firmness.
Free radicals—unstable molecules from pollution, stress, and even sun exposure—damage your skin’s collagen and contribute to aging. That’s where antioxidants come in! They’re the ultimate defenders, fighting off free radicals to keep your skin strong and smooth. Some of my go-to antioxidants include:
By incorporating these antioxidants into your routine, either through diet or skincare, you’re giving your skin an extra line of defense against aging.
Protect your skin from aging by incorporating antioxidants into your daily routine.
Healthy, glowing skin isn’t about having a complicated routine or spending a fortune. It’s about taking care of yourself from the inside out. Prioritize sleep, make smarter choices about sugar, and let antioxidants be your skin’s superpower. These basics are the key to beautiful, youthful skin, no matter your age!

“Omega-3s are great for your skin, it’s great for your collagen, and the name of the game of skin care is collagen.” ~ 11:14
“Lower estrogen can affect collagen. So the drop in estrogen during perimenopause or menopause significantly impacts your collagen production.” ~ 14:45
“It’s tough, but reducing sugar can make a big difference in your skin’s appearance.” ~ 18:26
“Again, it’s not about doing everything all at once. It’s not about buying the latest expensive products. It’s about sticking to the essentials that really make a difference in your skin.” ~ 20:10
